you can do that of course, but its for most cases only weather satelitte images. also its really difficult to receive the signal correctly since there is often a lot of noise depending on where you live and you need a really good antenna.

i tried this myself a while ago (not because of UFOs, but because SDR-RTL stuff is really cool and interesting in itself) and hadn’t achieved a single image because here where i live its really noisy (radio signals and noise from electrical devices).

if you want to try this for yourself, you can get a RTL-SDR v3 stick. make sure you get the kit that has also the antenna included & its the original (aliexpress has a offical store from the company producing them). then you can go somewhere far away from the city and electro smok and record the signals. there is software that shows you when which satellite is passing right over you.

the issue with this satelittes is just that you need to be prepared for the satelitte.. if you miss the signal, you need to often wait countless hours for the next pass or even a day if you really have bad luck. the satelitte often are only receivable for a few minutes of time (around 7-10 minutes or so), so you need to make sure to have everything right beforehand.. also that you have set up your software and recording correct, have the correct frequency for the satelitte you want to record etc etc etc.. its a lot of fiddling around till you get it right. but even if you receive the image, don’t expect much. its often not really much «wow». often you only see clouds etc.. and not really any details.

short: if you’re interested you can try it.. but don’t expect to see ufos with it. you 99% won’t see any of such details. its intented for weather forecasts etc.. not to see details like on google maps or google earth.
