Well, I have always looked at it this way ….
If the Universe’s expansion rate is greater than the speed of light, that will open up the possibility that there are things inhabiting the Universe which can likely keep up with its expansion.
Maybe, just maybe … Physics will finally begin expanding at indescribable speeds, as well.
>if the age of the Universe is doubled, it means more chances for sapient species to evolve
And even more opportunities to go extinct.
It’s also unclear how this impacts the different stages and their overall duration. Maybe atmoic soup was simply a much longer state, meaning first galaxies may have formed around the same time still.
Could be that first stars did form much earlier but due to lack of elements, there wasn’t much chemistry to allow for anything to evolve for a very long time.
>evolve to a intelligence level more than us and thus have a greater chance of discovering/inventing means of traveling humongous distances easily.
More time does not necessarily imply evolution would result in even more intelligent species. There might be a plateau of some kind.
It also does not mean it would lead to ever accelerated technological progress, resulting in even crazier technologies. Laws of physics are still the limit. If you can’t travel faster than light, because it’s simply impossible, then it doesn’t matter how many billions of years old your civilization is.
_____
More time *can* result in more variety and more opportunities and more complexity and whatever other properties might have the potential to grow — but it’s not a *requirement* that these things would happen.
More time does not imply unlimited growth, not to mention beyond what is possible within the limitations of the universe. Just because something might happen doesn’t mean it will happen.
_____
For all we know, the first 13 billion years could have been the most hostile conditions one could imagine, making it impossible for life to emerge anywhere.
Plenty of time for advanced alien life to develop and explore universe
I really doubt any human can really come close to the existence in years of the universe. Also as we base our year on the Earths revolution around our Sun how can one use years to measure the Universe?
But how come?
This doesn’t look like it has been peer reviewed yet.
Why are people so fixated on linear time and superficialities like this? Maybe everything is infinite. Is infinity measurable? Our perspectives change constantly as we understand more.
I’ve always operated under the assumption that the universe is older than 13 billion years.
So what was the big bang?
Idk how they’re even doing math, I just read an article saying there was a period where time was 5 times slower in the universe’s development.
Here is my problem: I have seen countless scientist say, without a shadow of a doubt, they know when the Big Bang occurred. If they are off, by DOUBLE, after all this time…it calls into question every other date/time frame we have been given.
Everything needs to be re-done, re-checked, and taken with a grain of salt.
Recently I’ve read a theory about how we’re currently moving into a higher dimension. What if this higher dimension is older and bigger than the previous one?
TLDR — New study claims Universe is 27 years old. If so how many more opportunities for non human species to reach intelligence level many times above humans? What all they could have discovered, invented, achieved as opposed to in 13.8 Billion years?
Well, if an adjunct professor at the University of Ottawa says so, I guess it must be so.
If I’m being intellectually honest I have zero frame of reference for any amount of time older than myself tbh so… great?
I can’t even read the article because the webpage is insufferable with so many ads and pop up videos
Well that means there is a whole lot more buried in the earth and under the ocean.
We need to dig.
People come up with these theories under the supremely incorrect assumption that any alien civilization is going to somehow last longer than a blink of an eye in comparison to the age of the universe. Just like them, our entire civilization from start to finish is going to be less than a blink of an eye. At our current rate, we might not make it another 500 years but that’s a topic for another sub.
The point is, when considering these impossible to fathom time frames, it makes it even less likely that another civilization would even catch a whiff of space travel, find out we exist, somehow locate and reach our tiny pinpoint of a planet AND exist during the same relative blink as us.
A clock only measures itself
They were off by a factor or 2x. Imagine what we will be wrong about tomorrow?
Wow. Somebody wrote a paper and now we are convinced he is right and every other paper ever written which contradicts this one is wrong.
did the aliens say that?if not,i’m not buying it anymore.
The aliens are possibly time travelers. Time travelers = the universe may be of infinitely or immeasurable age, if the same years have repeated.
Spoiler alert, it’s always been and always will be.
Based on what calendar? This is stupid. The universe is timeless. Or we can agree on when matter was created in this cycle. Do you not know what time is? It’s something probably not understood, like Magnitude & Magnetism.
A study that has all sorts of issues with it and experimental evidence against it says the universe is twice as old as we accept at 14 billion years. Read the whole thing first.
Christ on a bike I don’t think you even understand straw man… I’m very very done with this conversation. Hope you take the time to try to understand what you are attempting to talk about but I shan’t hold my breath.
I’m 100% sure there is an alien species out there that is at least a few billion years old.
Lol it’s infinite, was no big bang!
the universe don’t time itself base on our earth year. lol
It keeps getting older every day.
We have a long way to go til the universe dies out aka all stars die . Prolly several and several trillion years if not much more .
Fuck even with Adblock on mobile that website is cancer.
The point is moot
Aliens: you’re not even close
