  1. I’ve been here since 2015. This subreddit has *always* been filled with dubious postings.

There’s no need to form a conspiracy about how people not being discerning enough or uninformed about natural phenomena is a psyop or whatever.

  2. There’s no campaigns on either side of the argument.

Every time there’s some kind of UFO excitement in the sub there’ll be a whole bunch of people spamming the sub with anything UFO related they can find.

As for opinions the sub is always like this. Any rational views and opinions are generally downvoted in favour of the fantastical. Skepticism and debunking are basically used as derogatory terms here too.

People also like to work with negatives so unless something can be proven to be something mundane then it’s a possible craft for a lot of people.

  3. It’s very funny to me that this post revolves around being disappointed by easily explainable phenomena captured on video being paraded as evidence of aliens, and how attempts to offer simple explanations are being met with dissent and hostility.

Yet simultaneously, you offer the explanation for why this is occurring as a coordinated campaign by some amorphous 3rd party actors attempting to bury information within the sub, rather than offering the simpler explanation that there’s just a lot of very unreasonable people around here.

The irony and complete lack of awareness on that is just absolute chefs kiss perfection.

  4. Everytime new people are brought to the discussion due to a big event like the Grusch story there is plenty of opportunity to kindly explain to people what things like starlink, Chinese lanterns amd drones are.

  5. I am more concerned about the timing of Greer’s event. The fact that Greer did not mention or add his weight to Grusch is the real distraction. Tbh I am more concerned about your post trying to paint Greer and Grusch as equals.

  6. I assure you that I am not a secret agent nor a CIA bot and while the Grusch interview was for sure very interesting, Greer is full of shit and people like him are the reason why so many people laugh at us when the topic comes up. On the other side, while he for sure he «sold out» a little to become a little celebrity, Lue Elizondo is the one who started all this having a part in the release of the Pentagon videos. I want proof not crazy ramblings about angels and demons

  7. I wouldn’t be able to say whether or not I find it likely that some agency is in this sub doing that, but I do think it’s possible. Maybe unlikely, but I can’t rule it out in other words. That would be the modern variation of a magic trick they’ve been pulling since the 50s, so there is historical precedent specifically in this subject. The UFO subject is just too big, so the only thing they can do is increase publicity of bad information while decreasing it for real information. Doing this over and over will reduce public interest in the phenomenon.

HOWEVER, because I would like to throw some cold water on that, we’ve had trolls posting a bunch of nonsense in here before as well, so I wouldn’t rule out trolling, either, or even a bunch of newcomers suddenly getting interested and tipping the scales. The main problem is even if this seemingly unlikely subreddit conspiracy was happening, the only way it could happen relatively undetected is to impersonate trolling and newcomers, so you likely wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference anyway unless they were fairly incompetent. But this was a great excuse to share a couple of UFO history facts.

    > Training meant more public education on how to identify known objects in the sky. “The use of true cases showing first the ‘mystery’ and then the ‘explanation’ would be forceful,” the report said. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/15/arts/television/project-blue-book-history-true-story.html

«*It was the typical negative approach. I know that the negative approach is typical of the way that material is handed out by the Air Force because I was continually being told to «tell them about the sighting reports we’ve solved—don’t mention the unknowns.» I was never ordered to tell this, but it was a strong suggestion and in the military when higher headquarters suggests, you do.»*

-The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects, by Edward J. Ruppelt, Air Force Director of Project Grudge and Blue Book [1956] — Chapter 5, page 62.

According to Bluebook scientific advisor J Allen Hynek, Bluebook was told not to get the public excited, «don’t rock the boat.» Whenever a case came up that they could explain, let that out to the media/public. But for cases that were very difficult to explain, do everything you can to keep the media away from it. Bluebook had a job to do, rightly or wrongly, to keep the public from getting excited: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyDVR2B14dw

  8. I agree 100%. I tend to post things that are more of a wide discussion and less credible, but when I do see the people comment valid explanations; hate floods them. I’m tired of seeing it in this community, which otherwise tends to be open to explanations. I think the double edged sword that comes with the UFO topic being less stigmatized and a valid discussion now, is that way more people obviously come into these threads and are very vocal at times, even when they are being massive dicks to people just to get their point across.

  9. It’s what happens every time a new big event comes around. The sub is flooded with new faces who are just becoming aware of it all for the first time. They are so excited and since we have some credibility that it’s real — they want to believe everything is real. I saw it in myself years ago when I first became aware of the situation. In fact I was just thinking the other night how much I’ve matured to be able to take the approach I do now and not get too giddy before looking into something.

All I can do is smile each time I see this because though it is seriously annoying — it is merely a side effect of having so many new faces around and let’s face it if the overall goal is full disclosure — this is going to happen a LOT — in waves as each event unfolds and we can at least be grateful that it means there are more with us! They’ll come around and sharpen up eventually and until then — at least we have them. Glad to have you even if new — good luck in your research! The more we have on our side the stronger the push becomes and it’s growing. You can see that in this side effect alone.

  10. In this sub if you challenge any of the theories de jour you get downvoted and harassed, then the mods will delete and defense you provide. And then you are called a bot and a shill.

I have probably 100 people blocked just from this sub. It is ridiculous. I have interacted with some of the absolute worst Reddit users across the whole site here. Very few times will you sit and have a good conversation without lots of commenters chiming in being ridiculous and insulting you. Even if you do actually find someone that engages with you with another opinion, they try to be as demeaning as possible and take the stance of “only an idiot could disagree with me”.

  11. It’s the power of paranoia. It’s what’s killed this movement since it’s inception. Do you really believe what you’ve been told about some ‘global elite’ and the ‘control’ they have? I’ll put it this way, something similar happened at my alma mater, where there was a long standing tradition for stealing a certain item the school wanted to eliminate for liability reasons. So what do they do in a school full of engineers? They spread rumors of complicated countermeasures, sophisticated sensors, ect… However, none of it actually exists, it’s all rumor and speculation. This leads to everyone who contemplates this exercise over analyzing and concluding it can’t be done within the budget/time they have. The trick? There’s nothing up there, just lights and maybe cameras that work half the time, but the general perception is cemented that this system is in place, with harsh penalties promised for anyone caught doing it.

  12. If someone is making extraordinary claims and the goal is to demonstrate that they are probably right, or probably not right, the process is pretty simple.

You exam the incident (or photo, or video, or whatever). You then scrutinize it for any plausible explanation that would make more sense than the narrative you’re being asked to adopt… There might be 5 possible things that would easily explain the evidence, there might only be one possible thing… But as long as a reasonable person could conclude that, based on the evidence shown, it is POSSIBLE that there’s a very normal, more likely explanation, then the evidence must be dismissed.

What you’re hoping for are those one in a million situations where you study the evidence from every possible angle, and in doing so, are completely unable to explain it. Those are the ones that matter.

Does this mean we end up tossing out a video of a real alien all because there were some plausible alternative explanations? Yes. I suspect it happens all the time.

We are after those unicorn situations. The ones that simply cannot be explained. And while only one in a million fit in this category………. There are SO many of them that we can conclude there is SOMETHING going on that defies explanation.

We are at that stage right now. We have significant evidence that there’s something going on that no rational person could explain.

…… And you have to stop there. Because any explanation further is just speculation. And speculation is how you lose credibility.

I LIKE that the content here is so heavily scrutinized, or this place would be a shit-show of stupidity.

  13. I don’t think there’s some conspiracy behind this occurrence. A big news story gets a bunch of people excited about ufos, suddenly every glowing dot in the sky becomes a potential alien spaceship or interdimensional anomaly, some of those people either go on reddit or make an account, and we get an increase in video traffic, genuine anomaly or otherwise.

It’s like how activities in political subreddits go up when elections are happening, no cabal had to do that, it’s just a surge of renewed interest.

  14. I’m more surprised at this point that these sorts of posts keeps appearing. I’m not sure if most are new but it comes with the territory that dubious is the bread and butter of anyone that’s been into fringe subjects such as this. I wouldn’t blame anyone that’s skeptic by all the crap load of stuff they have to sift through especially if they have been at it for 5-10+ years.

Sometimes the evidence turns out to be a hoax, sometimes it is plausible, sometimes it is illogical. Now multiply the same lines with «I believe it’s legit», or plausible, or fake thousand of times and no kidding it’ll look suspicious because the things that have to be exposed/shown are rarely there but never admitted that we are in fact not alone.

This isn’t meant to be condescending. I’m new here as well. But I 100% don’t feel like going down the rabbit hole scrutinizing every comment made on forums/communities. It’s icky business and I’d rather just not be that attached.

  15. I didn’t seek out this subreddit, it came to me, I suppose as a result of many moderators taking their precious not their property black hole. So I am exposed de novo to this peculiarity. I react with incredulity, as I dismissed flying saucer lore from my life in the sixties. I’ve concluded there’s no point bothering true believers. So, my experience repeated thousands of times may explain your experience.

  16. I think a lot of people are just sick of the blizzard of bullshit about everything, everywhere, while the nation is being gutted by the .01%

We’re free falling into a new dark age because people have no critical thinking skills and can’t distinguish between what’s true and what makes them feel good.

  17. I am only posting here to help answer this question — I am not into any of this stuff and am wildly skeptical of any UFO stuff, but Reddit has started recommending it to me *constantly*. I haven’t jumped in on any of this because that would be kind of a dick move to come here just to piss in your corn flakes, but I can also imagine that a lot of other people would.

  18. I’ve even seen AI generated aliens posted, and everyone going “I’ve been searching for this image everywhere and I can’t seem to find it”….

And these images look like the same Hollywood template you always see: the big eyes, big lightbulb shaped head, the whole shebang…lol

It’s quite pathetic how gullible people are…

  19. I think people are just excited. Everyone wants to be a part of it, everyone’s going to get excited because if they’re just now realizing or grappling with the possibility that aliens are real and already here. Then at that point, *anything* could be aliens so they’re going to post all sorts of stuff. Anything that isn’t hype (like mundane explanations) might get downvoted.

I wouldn’t attribute to malice what can be really easily explained by ignorance.

This is the equivalent of reposts of memes from new people because they didn’t know that meme has already been shared 30x since they’re new to the subreddit, or new people asking the same questions over and over in programming or cscareer subreddits, or etc.

New people just joining the sub are going to be the most wide eyed and lacking context on most everything that you’ve probably seen in depth discussion on many times now.
