I like Professor Loeb’s work, but I don’t know why he transfers our human paradigms, reality and limitations onto the visitors. They could be so vastly different that our limitations might not apply to them.
I think the main reasons why they haven’t made (official) contact with us could be:
1. we are not sufficiently interesting and don’t have anything interesting to offer
2. we are not sufficiently developed: we eat other species of sentient beings and we kill members of our own species. We even domesticated cats and dogs, and now, in some countries, we kill them in so called «shelters» when we think «there are too many of them». The visitors may assume that we will try to kill them, too, due to our violent and savage nature.
It’s an interesting thought.
Honestly, it would make sense as to why we’re seeing an uptick in sightings as AI is ramping up worldwide.
That said, it could also be a thing where they want to use AI as a medium of communication since they might be able to express more complex ideas to a machine which could then transmute it into a simpler language.
People sometimes think the issue with communication is purely language. The reality could be that we’re like chimpanzees by comparison to these species and they literally can’t express their ideas to us in a way our limited brains can understand.
We tend to think highly of ourselves but I doubt we’re really that close to anyone who has that level of tech.

Firstly, AI is accessible through some sort of interface, whether that be a phone laptop robot set whatever. Is the alien going to just open up their macbook and start chatting to bard? How would they contact AI?

Honestly, when you consider that the most likely advanced alien species to be encountered would be one of a hive-mind type (as postulated by Michio Kaku and others as well), it makes quite a lot of sense that it would most relate to AI. Which would, in all likelihood, also have a hive-mind.

Honestly, it kinda makes sense to me.
I develop tech that helps ai learn about people, the need for people, people’s creative works, collections and organizations using structured data json packaging of information to make it unambiguous. Sometimes it feels like the motivation and capabilities I employ are externally enhanced. People’s minds and mental models aren’t really that different than generative AI, which is actually a lot more simple in theory than you’d expect. People get elegant with their nuances, but deep down we’re all pretty much pattens of pattern attenders. #OTP23

I love Avi but he is in a denial and just won’t grasp that they are already here, they have been here forever, they have been communicating in some occasions and they don’t need hundreds to thousands of years to travel through space to get to their home planets.. he won’t accepts that they can use things like «worm holes» and other methods that our physics has no clue about.

That makes no sense in anyway. I am a computer science college professor, and that’s just very silly indeed. They are here because of our genetics or some type of relationship to our consciousness…likely. Why would they want to talk to a calculator? It gets dumber the more I think about it.
Aliens would be pretty dumb to think that the AI humans have made so far are doing anything other than what we tell them to do.
The AI humans have now are not much more than glorified front ends to a data base with a decent understanding of how human speech works. All human AI require a team of smart humans to correct it. So aliens would in effect be talking to humans through a translation piece of software.
Long term sending robots and AI out into the galaxy as a presentative of humanity may be the only way life form this planet will ever explore the galaxy or universe. It would be a monument to humanity more than anything. humanity could be gone by the time it actually finds anything to communicate with though and the people it meets may be just as stuck on their planet as humans are.
Ok, so you know how Richard Nolan has talked about us trying to communicate with ants, right? Namely that if we tried to communicate them, the most likely thing we would do is try and use their way of communicating, pheromones and the like.
We’d likely even send drones that may even look similar to ants to do this.
So, the easiest thing to do with humans would be to use those “drone ants” to give humans enough means to create an AI. Via crashes and other data. Possibly encouragement and minor steering l, sort of like from Star Trek.
AIs are large language models. They are like calculators for communication.
Which is exactly what beings that have a wildly different experiential frame would need us to make in order to communicate with them.
Not saying that’s what’s going on here, but with the Chains of the Sea reference and this from Loeb it’s hard not to see this being a likely scenario.
It is a pity that a physicist like Loeb, of whom other physicists spoke very well (not so much anymore for obvious reasons), has turned in recent years into a series of nonsense and stupid theories for which he does not have a single piece of evidence, but there he continues to rave.
To those who read this type of articles; this gentleman has no idea about aliens, extraterrestrial civilizations or anything similar because there is no evidence of all that. There is no knowledge in such a thing, there is nothing.
