Considering that Shahzada Dawood is on board, the PR boost they’d get would be priceless. It would straighten out a lot of confusion about what team they are on.
Given how rich these people were, I don’t understand why they just didn’t crowd fund an actual submarine used for exploration off of the market.
My first thought was UFO’s when I heard it was missing. Not saying it definitely was but it’s definitely a thought especially if it’s never recovered.

Now, forgive me if I sound a bit skeptical, but isn’t it just a tad suspicious that this submarine was supposedly on its way to the Titanic? I mean, come on, who goes on a deep-sea expedition to find the Titanic these days?
It’s like a perfectly crafted plot for a B-movie sci-fi thriller. I can already see the movie poster: «Submarines, Aliens, and Trustee Intrigue: The Deep Sea Conspiracy.»
I can think of no horrible (or quicker) way to go than being crushed/drowned at the bottom of the ocean.
Let’s just hope these guys are found safe and sound, and if they do resurface, I can’t wait to hear their reports. Who knows, maybe they’ll reveal the secrets of the deep sea and their encounter with extraterrestrial aquatic beings.

It should be noted that the SETI Institute does a lot of research beyond SETI, the radio and optical search for signals from extraterrestrial civilizations.
The SETI Institute is also involved in astrobiology, climate studies, cataloging space junk and helping refine the orbits of things which became meteors to name just some of their other research.
