  1. This is why I never understand people when they say «why is the UFO phenomenon only in the united states?!?!? How come aliens arnt visiting all over the world?!?!» Because its like….. well, actually they are literally all over the world if anyone cared to actually do 5 minutes of research on the topic. UFO/UAP are literally ingrained in many cultures on virtually every continent on earth with the same exact stories of sightings going across thousands of years and dozens of cultures. Japan, for example has its own rich history of anomalous things from spirits and yokai to flying lights in the sky. There are places in Japan that locals regard as «having a lot of UFO activity.»

They are all over the world, whatever they are. And to say theyre all a hallunication unique only to americans or westerners is completely false. Literally mountains of data, evidence, documentation exists. You’d have to be delusional to ignore a whole section of human history.

  2. Yahoo News is a pretty widely read news source online here in Japan, so it is pretty interesting that this made it to the front page and has been the second highest accessed article as of 8:15pm when I first saw it until now 10:20pm Japan time.

Japanese is not my first language so apologies for any errors in the summary below:

The article recounts the 1975 «Kofu Incident» when Katsuhiro Yamabatake, a second-grade elementary student at the time, reported encountering a UFO and alien beings.

Yamabatake and a classmate’s cousin were near a vineyard in Kofu City around 6:30pm on February 23, 1975, when they witnessed a UFO, about 2.5m (~8ft) in diameter and 1.5m (~5ft) high. The door of the craft opened and one of the two aliens inside came down.

The entity, approximately 130cm (~4ft) tall with a brown face, deep wrinkles, and silver fangs, spoke in an unusual voice (the article has「キュルキュル」which is onomatopoeia for a squeaking sound). It walked behind Yamabatake and tapped his right shoulder twice. This scared the two children and they ran back home.

After returning to the site with family members, the craft was reportedly emitting an orange glow, which changed to white before the UFO vanished (I’m unsure if the family members reported seeing this as well, or if this was entirely Yamabatake’s account).

After the encounter, Yamabatake became a popular subject for interviews in various magazines throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the era of the “UFO boom”. However, he stopped sharing his experiences about 30 years ago due to the negative responses and skepticism he faced.

Recently he has expressed a desire to break his silence, asserting that even if people do not believe his account, he wants them to take his testimony seriously.

A local radio personality known for a late night Youkai (supernatural entities or spirits in Japanese folklore) talk show has proposed the 50th anniversary of the Kofu incident should be commemorated in 2025 by holding events to promote Kofu through discussions about UFOs and extraterrestrials. The pair hope to generate buzz for the event by having a statue of the alien encountered by Yamabatake built in Kofu City, and by featuring celebrities who are interested in extraterrestrials on the radio program.

Their plans have garnered support from 76 people, and donations exceeding their target of 700,000 yen (~5,000 USD) have been raised. They are serious about transforming their town into a “crossroads” for humans and extraterrestrials. They have created an alien mascot for promotional activities and are soliciting donations for events.

The article also mentions a town in the northeast of Japan’s main island formerly named Iino (now merged into Fukushima City), that has used UFOs and aliens as a means of revitalising their area. A «UFO Interaction Center» was constructed in Iino in 1992.

Finally, the article highlights the hope that through interest in UFOs and aliens, people may develop an interest in sciences of astronomy and energy, hopefully creating a positive academic environment for these studies in Kofu.

Years ago I personally witnessed a circular orange glowing UFO floating stationary high up in the mountains in broad daylight in the Japanese countryside, so I’m kinda comforted hearing others mention orange glowing UFOs (at least two others in the comments section too!).

  3. The bit about UFOs sparking interest in science is valid anecdotally for me. I’m in pharmacy school and have studied science my whole life but over the last few weeks I have been devouring science and science fiction media. My newfound interest in this topic has rekindled the sense of wonder I have about science that slowly dies when studying it in school.

    甲府事件を多くの人に知ってもらおうと、PR用に宇宙人型の着ぐるみを作ったり、イベントを企画したりするための寄付も募りました。

Man, they really do make costumes for anything lol

  5. Every time Japan and UFOs are mentioned together I am reminded of the story of the [Utsuro-bune](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utsuro-bune) and the much, much older legend of [Urashima Taro](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urashima_Tar%C5%8D). And [Kaguya-hime](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tale_of_the_Bamboo_Cutter) who is explicitly said to be from space, and whose story ends when she returns to space. Plus there’s legends about ghostly glowing balls of light in different contexts: hitodama, kitsunebi, and shiranui.

And all that’s barely scratching the surface of folklore. I’d bet that Japan has been a UFO hotspot thousands of years.

  6. Never heard of an alien encounter with this kind of description (brown face, deep wrinkles, and silver fangs). Fangs = I wonder what it is used for as most alien encounters describe them as having a slit for a mouth (don’t recall any description indicating teeth). This could just be the more rare alien species that visited us I guess.

    This is so wholesome:

*Finally, the article highlights the hope that through interest in UFOs and aliens, people may develop an interest in sciences of astronomy and energy*

I think there are so many more stories around the world that has been kept away from public due to possibility of being ridiculed. I sense this is already starting to change.

Interesting description and drawings from two boys that saw it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Humanoidencounters/comments/10wwjc6/kofu_fanged_humanoids_seen_by_two_boys_masato/

  7. Y’all ever notice how the craziest alien encounters almost all happened before home photography and home videography.

Lots of abductions and face to face encounters with Aliens in the 50s-70s, suddenly home photo and camcorder come out and poof almost no alien encounters.

We can all agree that bright objects in low light don’t get captured well, but physical beings would certainly be easily filmed in many kinds of lighting conditions.

  8. Hypothesis (conspiracy theory): Japan is angry because they are caught in-between a nuclear stand off and the former prime minster Abe has even directly stated that the US needs to give Japan nukes and wave off their former agreements on the matter (Japan can’t have nukes due to post ww2 agreements). While there current PM publicly states he is against JP having nukes (what won him the election) he is stuck in the same position as the former PM and is willing to release secrets in order to get more protection from the US.

Following is a list of statements by Abe, the former PM of Japan:

“The U.S. takes a strategy of ambiguity, meaning it may or may not intervene militarily if Taiwan is attacked,” Abe said. “By showing it may intervene, it keeps China in check, but by leaving the possibility that it may not intervene, it makes sure that the (Taiwanese) forces for independence do not run out of control,” he said.

“It is time to abandon this ambiguity strategy. The people of Taiwan share our universal values, so I think the U.S. should firmly abandon its ambiguity,” Abe said.

Abe pointed to NATO’s nuclear-sharing arrangements as an example of how Japan could deter those and other threats.

«While delivering a campaign speech for a Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) candidate, he was shot from behind at close range by a man with an improvised firearm. Abe was transported by a medical helicopter to Nara Medical University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.»

TLDR: Japan is in on UFO’s and is about to come forward with proof revealing of the sub rosa technological stand off, so that the US will be forced to allow Japan to have nukes and other military technologies that will help them if things south.

  9. 3 flying white orbs on a misty early morning in Icelandic nature, 15.9.22. It looked like they were searching for something. We have natural hot water in Iceland, sometimes you can smell the sulfur from it.
