To attempt a practical (and speculative) look at this.

**1940-1960: Saucers** — Coincides with first civilian atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, instigated extra-terrestrial interest in Earth. Saucers have capacity for passenger(s) and technology for interstellar travel. They start sending over representatives for surveillance, contact, negotiations, greet and meets, collect Galactic Federation membership fees, sell nuclear damage insurance, etc.

**1950-1980: Cigars** — Cargo vehicles, i.e. interstellar trucks. Already surveyed Earth with saucers, committed to on-planet or near-planet physical presence. Transport equipment via cigar/cylinders to set up local infrastructure, accommodations, suppliers (maybe food, favorite space coffee, etc).

The types with portholes are interstellar yacht cruises, allowing their elite tier to be the first (bragging rights) space tourists from their society to laugh at our uncouth savage civilization from safe distance, occasional flashes we see in the sky from craft are literally just flashes from their cameras. Wealthy people are universally eccentric, some of their wealthy abide by the equivalent of our steampunk aesthetic, thus use antique cameras with flash technology.

**1970-1990: Triangles** — Can carry passengers and can land on ground. Mainly used on «manned» Earth missions, surveillance etc, differs from Saucers because interstellar travel not needed for these crafts, and hence doesn’t use exotic (e.g. element 115) technologies that necessitate a circular form. Triangular form suggests greater reliance on aerodynamic physics of Earth conditions, where wind resistance and drag are issues. Might employ a more traditional (relatively speaking) propulsion mechanism where fuel source is more readily available from Earth or nearby.

**1990 to now: Orbs/Polyhedron** — Autonomous maybe sentient technology. Majority of «manned» missions have been conducted in prior years, these orb objects are for surveillance and monitoring, collect data for experiments they have previously designed in the Triangle craft phase. Might be top of the line alien technology equivalent of CCTV cameras to stop us from continually doing incredibly stupid things, i.e. nuclear. Also could be floating holographic projectors set up in anticipation of announcing the [«Show Me What you Got » competition] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1fZ7Ap6ebs).

* Described as white or metallic in color.

Behaviours

* Sighted offshore
* Multiple sighted together
* Capable of rapid acceleration and sudden stops.
* Ability to hover or remain stationary in mid-air.
* Reported to exhibit unconventional flight patterns such as sudden changes in direction and high-speed maneuvers without any visible means of propulsion.
* No audible sound during flight.
* Can travel underwater

**Cigar / Cylinder**

Characteristics

* Cigar or cylinder-shaped, elongated with rounded or tapered ends.
* Can be up to hundreds of feet long.

* Smooth and featureless, with no visible windows, wings, or propulsion systems.
* It may emit a low humming or hissing sound.
* Some reports suggest that they may have lights or glowing sections.
* Some sightings describe a row of windows or portholes along the length of the object.

Behaviours

* Cigar-shaped UFOs/AUPs have been reported to hover motionless in the air for extended periods of time.
* They have also been reported to move at high speeds and make sudden stops or changes in direction.

* Some witnesses report seeing the craft rotate or spin in place.

Behaviours

* Disc-shaped UFOs/AUPs have been observed hovering motionless in the air for extended periods of time.

* Witnesses have reported that disc-shaped objects can move silently through the air, without any audible sound.

My daughter and I saw the V last year. I think it’s military. We also saw the orbs a couple of times. My man and I saw a weird ufo too, but it’s not listed here.

I’m not so sure about the dates.
I know someone who saw a flying saucer in 1995. Also a lot of black triangles the last few years, probably more than orbs.
I’ve never heard of the «polyhedron» type.

Well at least you got the categories mostly correct

It’s not a cigar. It’s shaped like a brick. You might think it’s cylindrical. It’s not.

The ‘flying V’ appearance is an atmospheric effect, something to do with how it’s bending light. In actuality it’s always a solid triangle.

Did anyone ever see an orb that looked like a rapidly spinning Earth type planet? Floating horizontally while spinning?
