  1. The agency will hold a meeting of the «independent study group» it formed nearly a year ago in June 2022 in order to study data related to unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP), a new term that encompasses objects or occurrences in the sky, underwater or in space that can’t be immediately identified. The meeting will mark the first time the group has discussed the results of its UAP investigation in public. The four-hour meeting will be available to watch online courtesy of a free livestream on NASA TV beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET (1430 GMT) on Wednesday (May 31).

  2. Maybe it’s the optimist in me but I genuinely think if NASA puts forth a concerted public reporting mechanism and continues this, it could bring this topic away from the fringe. A lot of my scientific minded friends have been turned off by this topic, having been controlled mainly by the military, known to use disinformation and misinformation for all sorts of reasons. NASA getting in on this will pique interest.

  3. Let me take a stab at summarizing the upcoming announcements:

“Some pilots have reported objects which we investigated further, but so far there is no evidence that they represent anything unknown to science. However we think there’s water on one of Jupiter’s moons and maybe it could host bacteria and by golly we should investigate it! Please fund us.”

  4. I believe NASA being involved in the best chance we will ever have at some kind of disclosure. If we, for the moment, ignore the fact that governments could withhold funding to enforce secrecy, NASA doesn’t suffer from the same (bullshit) reasons as say the DOD to keep things quiet.

I’ve been hoping to see NASA taking the charge for years, and I’m thrilled to see at least a small step in that direction.

However, I won’t hold my breath. I suspect we will hear much of the same we’ve heard the past few years. «Can’t rule out x», «need more data,» «some can be explained, others may be explained eventually.»

What we will absolutely not hear is a declaration that we’ve encountered advanced crafts that are not man-made, so don’t get your hopes up.

  5. Spoiler alert: It’s going to be a massive waste of time. I’m not even wasting 5s to watch.

All I’m going to do is come on here and read all the disappointed reactions from you folks.

  6. Right like Never A Straight Answer is going to tell us anything. I’m not sure what people are expecting from them.

«Hey everyone. Aliens are real and we spent the last 70 years lying to you but we swear we want you to trust us on this. And yes, that means we did murder all those people trying to disclose this issue but please don’t riot. And we hid secret technology from you so we could keep selling oil and the world is on fire for no reason other than our own greed. Ok, bye everyone».

  7. Don’t get your hopes up. They won’t be discussing any particular cases. They’re simply going to talk about what their limitations are in detecting/analyzing UAPs and how they can improve those limitations.

    >*»Outlining how to evaluate and study UAP by using data, technology, and the tools of science is a NASA priority.* ***It is not a review or assessment of previous unidentifiable observations.*** *The report will inform NASA on what possible data could be collected in the future to shed light on the nature and origin of UAP.»*
