  1. Its actually a quote from john wheeler:

«We live on an island surrounded by a sea of ignorance. As our island of knowledge grows, so does the shore of our ignorance.»

  2. I mean he’s right. All the people providing «evidence» have no clue what they’re even looking at. This is why it’s incredibly rare to hear UFO sightings from people who are actually trained in looking at the sky. I’d say something like 98% of UFO sightings can be rationally explained away. 2% are some kind of phenomena that we can’t explain yet. Could be extraterrestrial, could be some natural occurrence that we simply don’t understand. It’s fascinating stuff to be sure. I just hate when people invent full on narratives and conspiracies cobbled together from shit they pulled out of their asses. You don’t know anything. So stop speculating and pretending that what you’re doing is actual research, cause it ain’t.

  3. Dr. Tyson always seemed sympathetic to the almost certainty of extraterrestrial lifeforms.

BUT, he keeps saying that he hasn’t yet seen convincing evidence of intelligent ET lifeforms having arrived here on earth.

You are absolutely free to disagree with him. And, sure, he is a really self-assured and opinionated guy. Still, compared to some of his frenzied detractors who childishly rage against him here in this forum, he is a comparative pussycat.

  4. What Neil has said is in full agreement with current investigations. There in no evidence of ET.

Kirkpatrick stated that “AARO has found no credible evidence thus far of extraterrestrial activity, off-world technology, or objects that defy the known laws of physics,” adding that “In the event sufficient scientific data were ever obtained that a UAP encountered can only be explained by extraterrestrial origin, we are committed to working with our interagency partners at NASA to appropriately inform U.S. government leadership of its findings.”

  5. Ok so I’m not a scientist, but if I were, and especially a well recognized one, one of the most important qualities I would maintain is an open mind. How can you be focused on the progression of knowledge and understanding of the unknown , without an open mind?

His clear bias towards resisting the possibility of other life forms that are sure to exists in the vast expanse of potentially trillions of other galaxies in the universe, which has no verifiable end , to me is a sign that there are shenanigans afoot. He’s arrogant , he’s judgmental , he’s dismissive, he’s everything I wouldn’t want in a teacher , or from anyone in my life.

  6. it’s very disappointing that a person seen as the public face of astronomy and space related topics can be so dismissive of clearly real events. he could help push better, deeper investigations and public discourse.

  7. «Evidence» is being thrown around here a bit unfairly imo. What if all videos and pictures are inconclusive and not really evidence.. Eyewitnesses suck. People think they see stuff all the time, it’s a thing. People lie all of the time especially to have a role in continuing to build an interesting narrative, as a social phenomenon like a live action story telling. It’s a fascinating idea and a popular topic around the world and there is a high incentive to mess around, especially for money/status. Continuing the story and imagining and creating the story is individually rewarding and there is a constant stream of media to search for and the anticipation of new things. There are incentives other than the truth that have a higher value in it’s economy . I think it’s why science clashes so hard with ‘ufos’. I think it’s entirely possible that Tyson believes things are going on but it makes sense that he would still be exactly the same because it shakes off a lot of that other baggage . It’s also his brand lbh.

  8. LOL U guys are so funny. You just don’t get it.

The SECOND that actual, real life ETI is discovered, guess who is going to be the go-to expert that hogs up all the media. I am talking every late night show, every prime-time show, every newspaper and magazine, and every morning show that caters to the olds? Go on, guess?

NDGFT, that’s who. It would be glorious (if ETI is actually discovered, which it won’t be, because reality, not delusion) and wonderful to watch.

He will be everywhere. You know who won’t be anywhere on mainstream media? Whoever the latests circle-jerk UFO/UAP guru this sub is all hot and bothered about.

Why? Because he is a scientist, not a crank. The second this fetish of yours passes over from delusion into actual, verifiable science, NDGT will be there to explain it to the normies.

  9. A lot of folks on this sub don’t even know what NDT thinks about aliens.

I’m not the biggest fan of his anymore, but not because of his views on aliens. He thinks they’re a statistical probability… just thinks it’s statistically improbable that they’re visiting us.

The world needs more NDTs. He is a mainstream communicator of science who gets kids interested in science. More of that please. I’m willing to overlook some of my issues with him if he is going to be an excellent influence for kids, which he is. I’ve met him. I’ve been to his lectures. One of my issues is that he has gotten a little too much into the celebrity status. When I saw him, it was free and he was wonderful. He’s a different guy now. His lectures are expensive as fuck and the access is not the same. I get it — he’s a celebrity now. But he changed.

But he’s mainstream science man. He isn’t going to be entertaining the fringe because he doesn’t want to lose his job as the mainstream science man. Don’t look to him for UFO info. Don’t listen to him for that. That isn’t what he does or cares about.

  10. Tyson has always been a novelty scientist and more than likely a shill

He essentially just parrots the work of legitimate experts and pushes dogmatic opinions to ensure his job is safe

  11. I’d like to see this evidence you speak of.

Evidence is sometthing that is completely undeniable, 100% fact.

If there were evidence, everyone would be onboard with what we are seeing ecause you can point to that 1 thing. You’ll always have neigh sayers but thats with everything. Look at dinosaurs and religious nuts.

Videos of what we apparently see is not evidence as it could or could not be UAP.

  12. I find it highly odd that a man whose job it is to study the stars and universe doesn’t even believe in the possibility of extraterrestrials? Come on now, really? He does sound like a plant and a bad one at that. It’s like everybody in his field but him believes in the possibility. And I hope he really didn’t say that there’s no evidence because that’s just chosen ignorance. There’s evidence a mile high that we are being visited by beings is not of this Earth.

  13. You are strawmanning Tyson. What he means is «The more we know, the more we realize that we don’t know» (see also [the comment by @phr99](https://www.reddit.com/r/UFOs/comments/13b0jt8/comment/jj8yxyg/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3))

Tyson is a parody of a scientist, but if you want to expose him, please don’t become him.

In short this is what Tyson says:

*Hahahahaha. UFO’s does not exist, hahaha. I’m not crazy. I haven’t researched it. Who would research little green men? Hahahahaha! I am not going to research it, lol. Everybody knows there is nothing to it.*

Like any debunker he wants proof without research. He wants the world to be known, before we know it. His trademark is ridicule grounded in logical fallacies.
