  1. My biggest issue is trying to wrap my head around all the physics explanations. I’m not a physicist. I honestly understand just enough to follow the basics, but I feel I have limited enjoyment of the book because of it. It lost me here and there, but i understood enough to have the fear of what they’re explaining to hit me full in the face! It’s science-fiction, so yes, there will be problems in the story that don’t make sense, but the ideas are there and very scary. For me, the idea of hiding one’s own limited resources until you can’t anymore is the existential crisis that feeds my nightmares. Why are we so gung-ho on finding out we’re not alone? Especially when we realize that if we aren’t, we’re all but defenseless to fight being pirated, plundered, raped and enslaved. I used to be so into ufo’s. Wanting to meet my true maker, but now, I’m super-fine with still being the wallflower of the universe…
    hopefully.

  2. This series is very thought-provoking. If a species is more advanced than us it’s possible that we could be so hilariously outclassed that no amount of work or effort would ever let them lose control of us for a second.

  3. OP, I love you for this. I finished the trilogy late last year and there are many elements of this story that I find chilling. I reached the very same conclusions you did. Also, in The Dark Forest, when the Alliance fleet is destroyed… the shape of the object that did it.. man… fucking chills. Don’t even get me started on what happens in the third book, that is the stuff of nightmares.

  4. I wonder which part Elizondo found interesting. Th alien communication part, the alien home world environment, or the aliens using their technology to create hallucinations and miracles to control human beliefs. Methinks it’s the last.

  5. Yeah, it’s an arduous read. I had to read many paragraphs over and over to understand and remember the characters names and the scenarios being depicted.

EDIT: but it was a great read for the new concepts introduced in its pages.

  6. I’ve tried reading this and perhaps it’s the translation but it just seemed really clumsy, wonky, odd, unwieldy and just plain awkward in its conceptualisation and pacing

It was a slog and didn’t seem worth it.

It’s very rare for me to just stop a book and give up on it

  7. Absolutely amazing trilogy I’m convinced the people here that say otherwise just either are bad at reading comprehension or just can’t wrap their heads around something that isn’t 100% western viewpoint

  8. There is a 30 part Chinese live tv version of it on YouTube for free.

Omg is it a looooooooooooong series of over long and over ply dramatic, repetition of repetition.

The only interesting parts are inside the game but even though repeat a lot.

The concept is fascinating but if it was distilled and set at a normal pace even Netflix couldn’t make more than 10 episodes to cover the premise. It’s really quite a basic story — just stretched out incredibly long. (If you’ve notice how much I keep mentioning the length and repetition there is a good reason). Short version: one girl dooms the human race to invasion and this reveals who’s coming and why, in the most round about way possible.

If you dare, here you go, enjoy: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9yRf-Ghij3Y4PySsFmix0ePFvuhvtpog

  9. Eric Weinstein sees a conspiracy around every corner. Yes big science is out to get you! Thousands of physicists all around the world come together and make a secret plan to destroy mankind by slowing down progress. Lucky for us Eric figured it out! He is warning you by going on Joe Rogan and telling you because when you want to save mankind from the evil cabal of physicists the best thing to do is to go on Joe Rogan and sound the alarm so that ordinary people can get angry at physicists and take action!

  10. The second somebody mentions Joe Rogan, it’s hard to take the rest seriously.

But mentioning Joe Rogan and quantum physics in the same sentence, that’s literally nuts. I don’t think the man has even a basic grasp of Newtonian physics, let alone quantum physics.

  11. I had to stop at 17:05. He can’t recover from the disgusting misuse of «Unthawed». People… if you can’t grasp that thaw means melt and unthaw means freeze… please don’t use either words… Humanity depends on it.
